Hokitika Museum

The Hokitika Museum is located in the Carnegie Building, on the corner of Tancred and Hamilton Streets, Hokitika.
The West Coast's illustrious past of pounamu (greenstone), gold mining and pioneer settlement are all well represented in the Museum collection. The Museum also has an excellent family and local history research centre; material includes West Coast books, a Pioneer Family Register, photographs, newspapers, biographical notes and much more.
The Museum is open every day, except Good Friday, ANZAC day and Christmas Day, during the following hours
Summer (after Labour weekend) Mon-Sun 9.30 a.m. – 5.00 p.m.
Winter (after Easter) Mon-Fri 9.30 a.m. – 5.00 p.m., Sat-Sun 10.00 a.m. – 2.00 p.m.
The Research Centre is open Monday to Friday from 1.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. An appointment is necessary.
